Surah An-Naba' ( The Great News ) - Aya count 40

عَمَّ يَتَسَآءَلُونَ ﴿١﴾

What are they asking each other about?

عَنِ ٱلنَّبَإِ ٱلْعَظِيمِ ﴿٢﴾

About the awesome tidings [of resurrection]

ٱلَّذِى هُمْ فِيهِ مُخْتَلِفُونَ ﴿٣﴾

concerning which they are in disagreement!

كَلَّا سَيَعْلَمُونَ ﴿٤﴾

But they will soon come to know.

ثُمَّ كَلَّا سَيَعْلَمُونَ ﴿٥﴾

Surely, they will soon find out the truth!

أَلَمْ نَجْعَلِ ٱلْأَرْضَ مِهَٰدًۭا ﴿٦﴾

Have We not spread the earth like a bed,

وَٱلْجِبَالَ أَوْتَادًۭا ﴿٧﴾

and raised the mountains like supporting poles?

وَخَلَقْنَٰكُمْ أَزْوَٰجًۭا ﴿٨﴾

We created you in pairs,

وَجَعَلْنَا نَوْمَكُمْ سُبَاتًۭا ﴿٩﴾

and gave you repose in sleep,

وَجَعَلْنَا ٱلَّيْلَ لِبَاسًۭا ﴿١٠﴾

and the night as a cover,

وَجَعَلْنَا ٱلنَّهَارَ مَعَاشًۭا ﴿١١﴾

and made the day for earning a livelihood.

وَبَنَيْنَا فَوْقَكُمْ سَبْعًۭا شِدَادًۭا ﴿١٢﴾

We have built above you seven mighty heavens,

وَجَعَلْنَا سِرَاجًۭا وَهَّاجًۭا ﴿١٣﴾

and We have set therein a glowing lamp.

وَأَنزَلْنَا مِنَ ٱلْمُعْصِرَٰتِ مَآءًۭ ثَجَّاجًۭا ﴿١٤﴾

>From the rain clouds We send waters pouring down in abundance,

لِّنُخْرِجَ بِهِۦ حَبًّۭا وَنَبَاتًۭا ﴿١٥﴾

so that We may bring forth thereby grain and a variety of plants,

وَجَنَّٰتٍ أَلْفَافًا ﴿١٦﴾

and gardens dense with foliage.

إِنَّ يَوْمَ ٱلْفَصْلِ كَانَ مِيقَٰتًۭا ﴿١٧﴾

Surely, the Day of Judgement has an appointed time.

يَوْمَ يُنفَخُ فِى ٱلصُّورِ فَتَأْتُونَ أَفْوَاجًۭا ﴿١٨﴾

On that Day when the trumpet shall be sounded, you shall come in droves,

وَفُتِحَتِ ٱلسَّمَآءُ فَكَانَتْ أَبْوَٰبًۭا ﴿١٩﴾

and the heaven shall be opened, and become gates,

وَسُيِّرَتِ ٱلْجِبَالُ فَكَانَتْ سَرَابًا ﴿٢٠﴾

and the mountains shall be made to vanish, as if they had been a mirage.

إِنَّ جَهَنَّمَ كَانَتْ مِرْصَادًۭا ﴿٢١﴾

Surely, Hell lies in wait,

لِّلطَّٰغِينَ مَـَٔابًۭا ﴿٢٢﴾

a home for the transgressors,

لَّٰبِثِينَ فِيهَآ أَحْقَابًۭا ﴿٢٣﴾

where they shall remain for ages,

لَّا يَذُوقُونَ فِيهَا بَرْدًۭا وَلَا شَرَابًا ﴿٢٤﴾

and where they will taste neither coolness nor any drink

إِلَّا حَمِيمًۭا وَغَسَّاقًۭا ﴿٢٥﴾

save boiling water and a stinking fluid --

جَزَآءًۭ وِفَاقًا ﴿٢٦﴾

a fitting requital,

إِنَّهُمْ كَانُواْ لَا يَرْجُونَ حِسَابًۭا ﴿٢٧﴾

for they never expected to be called to account,

وَكَذَّبُواْ بِـَٔايَٰتِنَا كِذَّابًۭا ﴿٢٨﴾

and they rejected outright Our signs;

وَكُلَّ شَىْءٍ أَحْصَيْنَٰهُ كِتَٰبًۭا ﴿٢٩﴾

but We have recorded everything in a Book.

فَذُوقُواْ فَلَن نَّزِيدَكُمْ إِلَّا عَذَابًا ﴿٣٠﴾

[So We shall say], \"Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!\"

إِنَّ لِلْمُتَّقِينَ مَفَازًا ﴿٣١﴾

As for those who are mindful of God, they shall surely triumph:

حَدَآئِقَ وَأَعْنَٰبًۭا ﴿٣٢﴾

theirs shall be gardens and vineyards,

وَكَوَاعِبَ أَتْرَابًۭا ﴿٣٣﴾

and young maidens of equal age,

وَكَأْسًۭا دِهَاقًۭا ﴿٣٤﴾

and overflowing cups.

لَّا يَسْمَعُونَ فِيهَا لَغْوًۭا وَلَا كِذَّٰبًۭا ﴿٣٥﴾

There they shall not hear any idle talk, or any untruth:

جَزَآءًۭ مِّن رَّبِّكَ عَطَآءً حِسَابًۭا ﴿٣٦﴾

all this will be a recompense, a gift, that will suffice them, from your Lord,

رَّبِّ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ۖ لَا يَمْلِكُونَ مِنْهُ خِطَابًۭا ﴿٣٧﴾

the Sustainer of the heavens and the earth and all that lies between them, the most Gracious [and] none shall have it in their power to raise their voices to Him.

يَوْمَ يَقُومُ ٱلرُّوحُ وَٱلْمَلَٰٓئِكَةُ صَفًّۭا ۖ لَّا يَتَكَلَّمُونَ إِلَّا مَنْ أَذِنَ لَهُ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنُ وَقَالَ صَوَابًۭا ﴿٣٨﴾

On the Day when the Spirit and the angels stand in ranks, no one will speak, except for those to whom the Lord of Mercy gives permission, and who will say only what is right.

ذَٰلِكَ ٱلْيَوْمُ ٱلْحَقُّ ۖ فَمَن شَآءَ ٱتَّخَذَ إِلَىٰ رَبِّهِۦ مَـَٔابًا ﴿٣٩﴾

That Day is sure to come, so whoever wishes to, let him take the path that leads towards his Lord.

إِنَّآ أَنذَرْنَٰكُمْ عَذَابًۭا قَرِيبًۭا يَوْمَ يَنظُرُ ٱلْمَرْءُ مَا قَدَّمَتْ يَدَاهُ وَيَقُولُ ٱلْكَافِرُ يَٰلَيْتَنِى كُنتُ تُرَٰبًۢا ﴿٤٠﴾

We have warned you of a chastisement which is near at hand, on the Day when man shall [clearly] see what his hands have sent ahead, and when he who has denied the truth shall say, \"Oh, would that I were dust!\"
